Motorola pushing Oreo update to X4, Z Play, Z2 Play, G5, G5S in Australia and New Zealand

The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker is now rolling out the Oreo update for several Motorola handsets in Australia and New Zealand. The update will bring new Android Oreo features which Motorola has outlined below.

  • Autofill your longs to favorite apps

  • Picture-in-picture gives you a floating window letting you do more at the same time (certain Google apps)
  • Notification dots on your apps to alert you of something new
  • Google Play protect to keep you safe from malicious apps
  • Optimized battery life
  • New Emojis - fully redesigned Emoji set which includes over 60 new Emoji.

The following are updates specific to the Moto X4's Oreo update. Meanwhile, the update itself weighs in at about 1.1GB.

  • Camera improvements: improved performance and capture speed for photos with depth information
  • Android security: Includes Google Security patch for January 2018
  • System storage: up to 2GB reduction of system partition
  • Stability improvements: squashed bugs and improved stability

The Oreo upgrades started with the Moto X4, which was released on the 11th Jan 2018. The update is now available across the following smartphone in Australia and New Zealand.
The Moto G4 Plus was one of the Motorola devices that would initially get Oreo, and then Motorola changed its mind. The company had to change its mind back after the backlash it got and decided to update the handset to Oreo after all. Check the source link for the full press release.

The OTA update comes just as Google's Android distribution numbers were just released with Android Oreo just passing 1% of active Android devices. We'd imagine the number of Motorola devices being updated will help Oreo's share.

CCI imposes Rs 135.86 crore penalty on Google for search bias
